As an independent energy and infrastructure company, we are committed to ensuring a safe and low-carbon energy transition. Although natural gas is less polluting than other fossil fuels, its use emits greenhouse gases, but we continue to take actions to mitigate this consequence.
We are working to support the regulatory process of gas storage and carbon capture projects, so we can effectively contribute towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Through responsible and diligent action, innovative projects, and adherence to a low-carbon economy with energy security in view, we take all necessary and possible measures to prevent, mitigate, and maintain the safety of people, the environment, and assets.
In 2022, Origem Energia began its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory and will prepare reports following the best existing market guidelines – GHG Protocol. Even though the initiative complies with legal requirements for Scope 1 and 2 calculations to meet the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP) requirements, the inventory is conducted to support the company in voluntary emission control and reduction actions, which means that the company will map Scope 3 sources.
In this first report, the focus is on the operations of the Alagoas Hub, which we assumed management of in February 2022.
Origem Energia takes the first step to understand the impact it generates in order to define future initiatives to minimize greenhouse gas emissions from our business.
