UNDERGROUND GAS STORAGE

UNDERGROUND GAS STORAGE

An important solution for energy independence

Underground Gas Storage (USG) is a process that has been practiced for more than 100 years in the USA to store natural gas in natural underground reservoirs (geological formations that have already produced hydrocarbons).

Using depleted reservoirs to store large quantities of gas, including third-party production, is a strategic practice to ensure the country’s energy security, with a continuous and stable supply of natural gas. This approach allows for balancing supply and demand, thereby stabilizing the price of the resource.

The favorable location of the Alagoas Cluster facilitates the flow and storage of pre-salt gas, in addition to the production of offshore operations in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin. The Alagoas Cluster alone, has a storage capacity of:

1.5 Billion

m³ of gas

20x

Brazil’s daily consumption

The United States has a storage capacity of about 133 billion cubic meters per day, while Europe has 110 billion cubic meters storage capacity per day.

ADVANTAGES

MARKET REGULATION: it is possible to regulate supply and demand, as well as pricing for distributors and, consequently, for the end consumers – society.
